Well firstly, it’s not very nice to look at. It’s a fatty, waxy type of stuff. What you may not know is that your own liver produces it.
In fact, it’s actually necessary for good health and it’s a part of every cell in your body. That’s because there are a few things that cholesterol helps our bodies to do:
- Keep cell walls healthy
- Helps produce sufficient vitamin D
- Aids in digestion with the production of stomach acids for the digestion of fat
The real problem is when the body produces too much cholesterol: it sits in your blood stream and eventually that can block your blood vessels. If you have blocked blood vessles you also have an increased risk of heart diseases.
If you eat a lot of saturated fats your body can produce too much cholesterol. A high cholesterol level should not be ignored since it’s a bit like a ticking bomb, waiting to go off.
