Soup Diet

Let me jump right in and tell you the good and the bad of this popular fad diet.

In the plan you eat as much of the soup as you want. On each day of the 7 day plan you also get to eat certain other foods. The authors claim you can lose up to 10 pounds in just one week.  This Cabbage Soup Diet Reviews' goal is to help you decide if you want to try it out.

The cabbage soup diet is usually attributed to the Mayo Clinic, although they say they had nothing to do with its development. They certainly don't endorse it.  If you have a major hospital in your area it's also possible that you might have heard of it by that name.  It seems that the actual name is pretty flexible and most people seem to hear of it through a friend of a friend.

Let's say right off the bat that it is a good diet in certain limited circumstances, but if you're looking for lasting weight management, it’s not the right choice for you.

There are two factors that make this program so attractive.  The first is that if you stick to the plan, you will lose weight - up to 10 pounds in just one week.  The other plus is that you won’t have to be hungry at all.  That is because you get to eat as much of the soup as you want.  You may get tired of the soup, but you won’t go hungry!

The downside of the program is also twofold.  The first is that the diet is boring - many people find the food bland, which is hardly surprising.  You are only allowed certain foods on certain days.  For instance, on one day, all you can have besides the soup is bananas and skimmed milk.  On the other hand, on another day you get up to 16 ounces of steak and all the vegetables you want.

The other problem with the diet is that it is extremely low in calories.  That means that it is not sustainable over time.  In fact, even people who endorse the cabbage soup diet recommend that you stay on the diet for no more than one week. The problem with extremely low calorie diets is that if you stay on them for too long, your body will go into starvation mode.

You will average about 900-1000 calories on this diet.  That’s not enough to keep your body going which means your body will be forced to burn fat.  That’s a good thing, but, if you stay on it for more than a week, your metabolism will start to slow down, reducing the fat-burning effects. Not so good.

Also, some of the main weight loss from the cabbage soup diet comes from water loss. When you go off the diet the weight is almost certain to come right back.

If you need to lose weight for a one-off situation like a wedding, reunion, or just to get into that summer swimming suit, this may be a solution for you.  If you are looking for a long term solution, this is definitely not the program for you. Always seek your doctor's advice before embarking on any restricted calorie diet.
